February 25, 2002 WV · Coal welder (shop) HANDLING OF MATERIALS

Green Valley Coal Company · Absorption of radiations, caustics, toxic and noxious substances

EE WAS WORKING ON A LIME/WATER MIXING TANK. HE STEPPED INTO A HOLE THAT CONTAINED WATER AND THELIME MIXTURE. HIS FOOT WAS COMPLETELY SUBMERGED FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES HE NOTICED HIS FOOT FELT LIKE IT WAS BURNING. HE REMOVED HIS BOOT AND FOUND HIS FOOT AND ANKLE HAD MULTIPLE BURNS ON THEM. HE THEN RETURNED TO OUR SHOP AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT
