Securing/tightening a door on the bottom of a closed hopper rail car using a 6' Rod "Rail Car Hopper Tool". As pressure was applied the railcar gate mechanism failed. The sudden release of downward tension on the bar resulted in EE right hand striking against the rail scale platform.

Employee felt back pain subsequent to lifting, carrying & putting down a piece of sheet metal, weighing approximately 35 to 50 lbs. Restricted duty began on 04/23/2008.

Injured employee was standing on the track of an excavator preparing to install the battery he had in his hands when he slipped, fell to the same leve, and struck his knee on the track. This caused a contusion that became a problem after about a week and required medical treatment. Fluid was drained from the affected knee and he was placed on restricted duty.

HE WAS HELPING CHANGE V-BELTS ON PIN MIXER WHEN BELT SLIPPED AND CAUGHT HIS FINGER IN GROOVE ON SHEAVE AT PELLETIZER. HIS FINGER WAS LACERATED AND NEEDED SUTURES TO REPAIR.
